Floor Plan in the Works

Hey team,

I have gotten started planning some ideas for the floor plan of His Man Friday and I would love input as to how we want it to look. Some of the biggest things that we need to figure out are:

1. Arrangement of the floor plan - how we want everything laid out in terms of seating,"grooming" area (for haircuts, shaving, etc), lounge area (should we choose to have one), and so one
2. Design scheme - what is the tone that we want to set in the venue? What colour schemes and textiles will aid us in achieving the desired atmosphere? Lighting will also play a big part in this.
3. Location - where do we want to set up shop? We need to come to a definitive conclusion as to whether we are going to aim at procuring a location downtown, or if we are going to target a mall setting for His Man Friday

Something that may be worthwhile to keep in mind while brainstorming is how we hope to affect the five senses: how do we want His Man Friday to have an impact in terms of sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell? (Perhaps not taste - unless we want to serve food/beverages)

I am also starting to dabble with some of the online modelling tools that Evan mentioned in class to get a feel for how they work for when we go to make a legitimate mock up of our establishment.

Wow Jared, this is awesome! I have some ideas for the design scheme and mentioned a few things in our Minimum Viable Product Section as well. As for location, I think that we should set up in a mall - preferably Chinook or Southcentre. Being downtown would be great for the higher end market but I also think we need to consider foot traffic. There are more people that go shopping in bigger malls than downtown and especially at times like Christmas; girls might be looking for ideas for their guy and seeing our store may be their solution. We'll nail this down in class.

1. I think that the best layout (based on feedback) will be one that keeps the store secretive, to protect the concerns of our male customers. This would mean placing the grooming area near the back, and exploiting the products and lounge area. We could also go the other way, and we can make it extremely open to show that it is okay for men to shop for grooming and cosmetic needs.

2. I agree that lighting will be crucial - I think medium-dim lighting will be the best choice. Especially if we go for the secretive layout. I can picture it with black and dark blue paint, with lots of stainless steel and glass.

3. Based on feedback, I think we are smartest to go with Chinook Mall.

Great insight Jared.
