Meeting Minutes

Advisory Board Meeting #4 – Nov 17

Meeting Agenda:
  • House Keeping:
    •  Go over meeting minutes from meeting #3
    • Update the advisors on what we have done since the last meeting - Scrum
  • Points to Cover:
    • Present the advisors with the prototype (Google Sketchup) that Jared has been working on as of right now, and get suggestions on what can be improved, moved around, or taken our
    • Points that we need to cover in our final pitch
    • Prototype Bonus: description of the prototype, bullet points that outline the specific working features of the prototype that will be demonstrated, and the due date we set for the prototype
    • Review the Pro Forma Cash Flow and see if it's reasonable or what needs to change
  • End of Meeting Take Aways:
    • Recap the important idea, thoughts, and suggestions from the meeting
    • Establish the action items that need to be complete going forward for the rest of the semester

Prototype Proposal:
  • Go for the 10% - hours upon hours have gone into the design and planning of the Google Sketchup so why not go for it? We just need to explain really well why we think we deserve to have that much of a bonus
    • Justify everything - where you place things, the color scheme, etc.
    • Schedule a meeting with Evan to discuss and get approval for the prototype
  • Monica - virtual tour of the space; 360 degree view of the store like you might see when buying/looking at a house (could possible do this with screen capture...)
  • Jared gave a run through of the prototype: reception/cash area, product shelving, couches and tv area, cologne bar, service area
  • Monica - put your own products on the shelves if possible; can they be made into 3D objects?
    • Could a canoe be used as a product holder on a table to go with the theme?
  • Hang paintings on the wall (Madeline - send pictures to Jared) - fill up the empty space on the walls
  • Import barber chairs and mirrors (if there is a 'color' that looks close enough to a mirror that will work as well)
  • What about a product prototype? Empty or full product bottle with a His Man Friday label - a tangible object that people can see and hold (Monica)
  • Move the reception/cash area back a little bit to be able to fit in more tables for promotional items - this way people will see the product through the glass store front instead of a person standing at a desk
Hiring Process:
  • Jenna - Post jobs with methods used by your intended employees and in what area you would reach them
    • Ideally the staff should be the same age as the intended customer you would want to sell your product to
    • Monica - "the ideal candidate for this position would have the following qualities..."
    • Monica - employee incentives: free services, product samples, product discounts - have the employees use and experiment with the different products and services so they know how they work and can give customers feedback on their own experience
Our pitch for His Man Friday is Dec 8th - decide who is going to pitch; should there be a guys point of view and a girls point of view? or just the guy's?

Action Items:
  • Make changes to the prototype (Jared) - should be done in the next 10 days
  • Create prototype proposal and email to Evan (Madeline) - send out to the team to discuss and revise if there is anything else to be added
  • Service/Consultation Appointments (Madeline) - what different methods can people use to book services?
  • Revise timeline (Lane) - change the dates, add more items, provide rational and reasoning behind it, etc
  • Inventory Management (Pat) - FIFO; active inventory management
  • Sales/sq ft. (Pat) - reiterate this with the prices that we have decided on for our products, which are on the website

Advisory Board Meeting #1 – Oct 6

Ideas, Suggestions, Thoughts, and Opinions from Meeting:
  • Targeting men and women is too broad of a segment – dropping women and solely targeting men
  • What kinds of products would be available for sale? Colognes/fragrances, shampoo, facial cleansers, shaving products, possibly hair dye
  • Men now a days are wanting to look good and present themselves appropriately and be well-groomed
    • Video tutorials or ‘How To’ guides
  • Should be a comfortable setting and atmosphere for all men – balance between classy, manly, and prestigious
  • Men’s Promotions – Hot Shave Experts
  • See what other high end places are selling such as Holt Renfrew
  • Location – make it a specialty shop destination over an impulse store, a place for men to want to go to and spend their time, make it an experience instead of selling solely the product
  • Customer service of Tiffany’s – one person is with you from start to end of your shopping experience
  • Promotional Card:
    • A percentage of what people purchase could be given back to them on a store card – and people could redeem this amount a certain week every month
    • Or buy 10 get 1 free type of system
  • Gift certificates – get people into the store, 30% of certificates are never used (free money)
  • Featured weeks once a month (Mustache Maintenance Movember)
  • Baby Boomers would be willing to pay/spend money to look good and keep up with other younger generations
  • High Rent – high mark up on product, in-store services (consults)
  • Constantly advertise in a way that appeals to both men and women (women will buy products for men or tell them that they need to visit this store) and remind people that you are there – Like Men’s Health Magazine but Calgary based
Action Items:
  • What’s Due on Sunday, October 9
    • 3 interviews per group member conducted and results posted to blog
    • Develop Demand Creation Plan
      • Sales Forecast of Customer Acquisition
      • Budget Based on Attributable Cost
  • Create agenda for next meeting
  • Change the name from Kozmetika to Kozmenika
  • Since we narrowed down the idea we need to do a little revising regarding our Mission Statement, Manifesto, Executive Summary, and BMC (revamp the alternative) as soon as we can – shouldn’t take that long
